One of Reggae's Founding Fathers Ascended to Zion – Between Addis Ababa, Zion and Kingston – From War in Babylon to Peace in Jerusalem

Max Romeo, a recording artist who is synonymous with Jamaican roots reggae, ignited the Tower of David with a reggae evening that has become a festival tradition. The closest you can get to “Jah.”

Romeo – responsible for the hits “War Ina Babylon” and “Chase the Devil,” sampled on The Prodigy’s album Out of Space – holds the dubious honor of being the most censored musician in Jamaican history thanks to his socialist songs and biting anti-establishment texts. Throughout his performance Romeo proved, with some excellent backing from his band, that despite his age he is still one of the most energetic and convincing performers to have taken part in the festival.

But first on stage was the Zvuloon Dub System with a new project that blended Ethiopian music with roots reggae and dub.

And between performances, the Twelve Tribes Sound System’s provided a selection of dub and roots reggae with a DJ set between the two performances.
