Naná Vasconcelos took you on a journey through the magical landscapes of Brazil. Grammy Award-winning Vasconcelos, viewed as Brazil's leading percussionist, manages to turn the drums, particularly the traditional berimbau into an entire orchestra that carries you away into a world of sound, sights and rhythm.
During a career spanning many years, Vasconcelos has recorded more than 30 albums as a soloist as well as having collaborated with such jazz and world music giants as Pat Metheny, Jan Garbarek, Egberto Gismonti, among others.
The intimacy and perfect acoustics of the Jerusalem Music Centre in Mishkenot Sha'ananim offered a unique and almost-unmediated encounter with Vasconcelos, who hosted Joca Perpignan (Israel/Brazil) in a celebration of sweeping and invigorating rhythm.
Vasconcelos' visit was made possible thanks to the generous assistance of the Brazilian Embassy in Israel.
