Inspired by the New York Story Slam (a storytelling competition for amateur raconteurs), this event brought together eight Jerusalemites from a range of professions: academic, filmmaker, journalist, author, lawyer, scientist, rabbi, economist, taxi driver, surgeon and social worker. Each were asked to tell a short story based on the same theme – the room.

Room Stories– four walls, a window, maternity room, prison cell, hidden room, ballroom, garbage room and a study. Every storyteller was invited to tell a story that reflected their own worldview or experience, as long as it took only six minutes.

The ninth storyteller was chosen by lottery from the audience.

The Pomrenze's home (which hosted the event) had been recently renovated but the family was careful to maintain its original character. The music conjured up romantic images of paintings by Gustav Bauernfeind, a nomadic, Orientalist painter who lived in the house at the beginning of the 19th century, but received little recognition in his lifetime.
