Three performances / One Night / From Korea to the Ivory Coast
Jeong Ga Ak Hoe –Korea
Piyyut Ensemble of the Ben Zvi Institute
Red Axes Feat / Yakomin (Israel/Ivory Coast)
For one long and especially rich night, the Tower of David will turn into a new tribal camp and a fire (both metaphorically and actually) of revelation and dedication will be lit by three bands from the four corners of the earth.
Take your time. We are about to embark on an exotic, ecstatic and consciousness altering journey. You can give yourself up to it completely or you can just go along for the ride, up close, watching and listening. Throughout the night we will be hosting three bands on the central stage from across the globe that play trance music. But not the kind of trance that dominated the dance floors of the 90s, but a deep trance. Rooted, traditional, contemporary, personal, collective and also totally private.
The night will be divided into two sets. In the first set you will meet the five female members of the Korean band, Jeong Ga Ak Hoe who will perform traditional Korean works inspired by local Shamanic traditions, which shift between gentle hypnotic rhythms to raucous beats. Next, 15 members of the Piyyut Ensemble of the Ben Zvi Institute will take to the stage, Jerusalemites who bring North African style prayer closer to the here and now in search of an emerging trance experience that will cut through Jewish reticence.
As the night progresses, we will pick up the pace, stoke up the fire and end this nighttime journey with a world premiere joint performance by the Israeli electro band, Red Axes and the Yakomin band from the Ivory Coast.
Between the sets and before the first set, the tower will be filled with the sounds of Yehezkel Raz’s piano and keyboards who will set out on a transformative, improvised trip, which happens every time he sits at the piano.
