One magical and enchanted night in an ex-territorial space in which anything can happen
Slip out of your street clothes, and step into a bathing suit. Take off your shoes, and let your toes caress the damp, blue ceramic edges of the pool. Close your eyes. Get ready. Take a deep breath, and fill your nostrils with the smell of chlorine that evokes sweet childhood memories.
Let yourself go.
Jump into the warm water.
Welcome to Atlantis. The ancient, utopian culture that disappeared beneath the waves will reappear for one long and wonderful night in an alternative aquatic space in the middle of the city on a hill. If you listen closely, it will draw you down into its watery depths. Pores will open, bodies will lose their shape, skin will soften, and voices will bubble up from within.
We invite you to join us as we plunge into another reality that is awash with new voices, subject to new laws and in a completely different time zone. A reality that will turn the YMCA’s brand new pool, for one magical and enchanted night, into an ex-territorial space in which anything can happen. Birds will chirp underwater, the sun will rise and set three times, choirs will fill the space and the pool’s waters with songs old and new, thunderous and gentle, while you float, dive, experience, swim and maybe even sing out load—whatever feels right for you.
One Night in Atlantis invites you into an extraordinary symphony of listening emerging from the pool’s reverberations, sound waves above and below the surface, and the mystical powers of water as a flowing and healing force. Come be part of a myth. Come be a drop in the vast and limitless ocean of Atlantis.
One Night in Atlantis will unfold in the YMCA’s new international sport’s center, in the public pool, which connects, daily, (like the YMCA) between religions and cultures. In the transitory and borderless kingdom of Atlantis, we are all fluid, and the water that makes up most of our bodies, whether we are a man or a woman, Jew or Muslim, Jerusalemite or Berliner, will flow from one person to another and suggest a new way to live together with compassion, serenity, transparency and clarity.
